The on-call teams of Heart Hospital are on standby around-the-clock.

Cardiology on-call service

Our cardiology on-call service is primarily intended for the benefit of ST-elevated myocardial infarction patients who need coronary angioplasty, and the area’s health centres, hospitals and emergency care units have been instructed about this. The cardiology on-call service is also used for other kinds of cardiology emergencies.

A team of one cardiologist and three nurses are in constant emergency preparedness (response time 30 minutes). The on-call cardiologist is responsible for coordinating the emergency patients. If necessary, the cardiologist invites Heart Hospital’s on-call cardiac anesthesiologist and/or cardiothoracic surgeon to attend to a patient.

ST-elevated myocardial infarction patients come directly to the cardiac unit (KARY). Note: ST elevated myocardial infarction patients do not need a referral, i.e. the ambulance does not have to collect a referral letter from the health centre.

Cardiothoracic on-call service

A duty team of cardiothoracic surgeon(s), cardiac anesthetist and four nurses are continuously on standby (response time of 30 minutes). The on-call cardiologist is responsible for coordinating the duty team. The cardiologist can present the patient’s examination results remotely via an electronic link, and Heart Hospital’s cardiac anesthetist and cardiologist can be consulted easily if necessary.
